If you've lace wheels before you know what i'm talking about. You just laced your wheel and u put the tire on and go to put air in and realize u cant fit the pump head on ur valve cuz the spokes are too close together. You wanna figure out how to lace a wheel and get the valve hole in the right place where the spokes on either side of the hole are leaning away so u get more clearance. Somehow all the videos on youtube never discuss this problem and rather explain their techniques of building a straight wheel using geometry without have any knowledge whatsoever of trueing. Well kids... time to take notes.
1) HOLD HUB DRIVER SIDE FACING YOU
2) FIRST SPOKE OUT BOUND ON DRIVE SIDE FLANGE
3) FIRST SPOKE THREADED TO FIRST NIPPLE HOLE LEFT OF THE RIM VALVE HOLE, WHILE FACING THE DRIVE SIDE OF THE WHEEL
4) *after lacing all outbound spokes on drive side flange*
FACING NON DRIVE SIDE NOW... FIND FIRST SPOKE NOW THREADED RIGHT OF THE VALVE HOLE, SINCE YOU FLIPPED THE WHEEL... PUT FIRST OUTBOUND SPOKE ON NON DRIVE SIDE FLANGE JUST RIGHT OF FIRST SPOKE ON DRIVE SIDE.
5) *after lacing all outbound spokes on non drive side flange*
FACING DRIVE SIDE AGAIN TWIST HUB COUNTER CLOCKWISE.
From here continue lacing happily knowing you are now a lacing wizard.
