re ups

re ups are important for many reasons. when an edit is anything more then a couple minutes, or even the tech as fuck short ones, there is alot you can miss easily. i am going t try something new here, i have never read an article like this before so hopefully you guys read this shit. but lets watch LSD RIDERS and break down every clip/editing technique, song choice, everything lets disect the shit out of it to understand why watching videos multiple times is important. read more after the jump

so let me start by saying i am no filming/editing/riding wizard, im just stoked on bikes.
lsd riders is a good example because of how skillfully edited it was but with any mixed video where the riders are not clearly defined it is hard to tell who rides what foot foward and grinds on what side.

with a video like oss ruin our whole summer, everyone should haver already watched this 8 times already just to catch what tricks are opposite

switch footed isent all too popular and if it happens i have seen clips where the rider will switch his stance and then do the grind or trick, when the rider changes his stance [puts the opp foot foward] usualy that part is slow motioned so everyone can see something is up.

slow mo is dope dont be afraid to use it, i usualy see it not even be used, or abused where every clip in the 2 minute video is fucking slow moed. have some ballance.

lets start this shit yo.
0:04- the warning here is good because it sets the stage for the madness that is about to begin, plus its something you really do not see with bmx videos nowadays so even dudes who ride are cought off guard and wondering what the fuck is this

throw bails/drugs/action stunts in fast to again just setup for the video. that crank flip is insane to that gap is big and its tight on the sides. some of the wildest stuff is right here in the begining. wich is good because it catches your attention now so that if midway through the video things seem to get alittle dull you keep watching because you know how crazy the first part was.

machete on foot and some firecrackers as a banger,

transition to a new song and its fast and loud, actualy a dope song by legionares disease band, called ide rather see you dead but they throw a clip of a roman candle fight in the beggining, matches with the speed of the music its fast and intense just like being ina small room getting hit in the face with roman candles is.

when the screams start there was a skip while still looking at the same paper it cuts the scene to fit with the music.

4:55 music and visual sync right there and then u get another transition.
throw a fast moving car as the music speeds up , when they jumping out of the window the music is slower then the fast beat that is playing when he rides the kids bike into the pool.
another music sync with the sky.

when the music and visuals fit together it makes the video flow much better. even if someone is not stoked on bmx if the riding is crazy enough or the editing was good and filming was good they will stick around and watch it.

7:45 another music sync when he falls off the dolfin thing i dont even know what half this shit is here.
then you have some solid riding and the music gets hyped up as they destroy shit.
8:30 bubble sounds as he falls into the lake just another way to sync everything up

"satisfy my fix" as a clip of mushrooms is shown
9:30 the music synced with the clip transition
laugh with the world and the world laughs with you as he laughs after everyone was flashed
10:32 another music clip transition

even when the transitions are lined up with the music it will make a huge difference

rap is commonly used in alot of bmx videos because of the constant use of snares or other drums, like hip hop and shit its easy to find plenty of audio transitions for your clips.

sometimes its better to not use music, i see all too much important naration drowned out by music that could wait.

12:36 vein is emphasized in the audio as you visualy see him shooting herioin. this unity makes the video flow.

chunck of solid riding clips and bails

14:9 when the firework goes back into his room music stops to emphasize what just happened.

15:00 "set your house on fire" as the dude gets lit up in flames

16:09 "fl with me" footage of being in a plane

cross fades are dope when there not abused, good example with running on the barrel, makes things flow nice and not seem too repetitive
re watch the rest of the video for more synchronizing wizardry im too shot to go through every section

for my next gutted edit i will break it down and tell you exactaly what was going through my head with every clip, because i am doing the editing it will be more in depth then me just trying to watch someone elses video and explain their madness
