How to lace bmx wheel

this will really teach you how to lace any wheel, 36 or 48h, 3x or 4x its simple shit.
no bullshit 30 minute video so you can watch me do some repetitive shit. just pause the fuckin video until your up to the next step.

1. install every spoke in bolth sides of the hub flange. as shown, alternating between inbound and outbound. this is same for 36 or 48. [i will make a video on how to do a 36h hub to a 48h rim and 48h hub to 36h rim later.

2.starting at the hole next to the valve hole, install every inbound spoke on one of the hub flanges, stay on the same flange and just throw in every inbound spoke, put a nipple on and screw it on quick. *if the rim is designed for it like the mcneil dub rim i am lacing is, then the spokes on the right hub flange must go into the left side of the rim]
-leave 3 empty holes and then put in the next inbound spoke. the two outer holes are for the other side of the hub and the middle one is for the outbound on the side of the hub you are currently installing.

3- install first outbound spoke, now you should be able to line this up easy, on a 36h wheel, the spoke needs to cross over 3 other spokes, on a 48h wheel it needs to cross over 4 spokes. [exception for the primo n4fl hub because of its design , its a 36h hub but needs to be laced 4x.
-if you only cross over 2, or you cross over 4 when lacing a 36h wheel it looks fucked as you can see in the video so this is yet another easy part.
*for these outbound spokes, on a 36h wheel you cross over the first 2 spokes, then get the current outbound your holding and go under the 3rd inbound spoke your crossing, on a 48h wheel you just go under the 4th spoke but over the first 3. so you are always going under the last spoke, above all the ones before it.

4- other side first inbounds, match the angle of the inbounds you have already done on the other half of the wheel, and if the right hub flanges inbound spokes go left, on this hub flange you go right with these inbounds, also line everything up so you have clearance for the valve hole so all sorts of pumps will work, you really only have a couple of options in terms of where you can put these inbound spokes as well and if your going in the wrong hole she will cry i mean the angle of the spoke in relation to the one adjacent to it will look fucked u, refer to step 2 for spacing on inbound spokes and how they are 3 holes apart

5- then the outbounds and you already know how to do this due to step 3 being explained

6- tighten every nipple, [try and use the same nipples to make things easier for yourself] but tighten them all untill you can no longer see any threads on the spokes,

7- TAKE YOUR FUCKING TIME, get a screwdriver, put a line of tape on the handle lining up with the blade so you can easily tell how far of a turn youve done, my leatherman works good cuz the shits a square. the slower you go the more precise and true the wheel will be in the end, so because of this ive gone 2 full turns to start with but most people go 4 i think i read 8 once but it really is up to you. start at the valve hole, if you go right go around the entire wheel hiting each spoke with x amount of turns, FUCKING DO IT EQUAL, when  you get back to the valve hole, go left, keep alternating between going right and left whenever you get back to the valve hole so that you never just keep going one direction and circling the rim. when the screw driver is not doin it for ya get the spoke wrench out and you can go as little as a quarter of a turn and make em all real nice, dont strip any nipples cuz your not close to done yet.

8-breaking in the wheel requires one to grab the spokes and cut your hand open because you grip them so hard, get 4 and squeeze down then the next 4, do this evenly to the other side of the wheel as well, you can use a channel lock as well, make things super easy and quick for this step.

9- put piece of wood on floor, place wheel onto the wood, then jump on the rim, not the inside of the wheel, but jump dont step on it, that initial jump is what matters, dont stand on it like a dip fuck either just jump, rotate it 45 degree and repeat, do this evenly for the other side of the wheel as well.

10- after breaking the wheel in go back and tighten up those nipples a quarter or half turn each and when they get real tough and you can only move the spokes about 1-2mm then your good to go, or your really weak, either way you should be atleast able to lace up your own wheels now

*gives you alot of options and its a good skill to have, shops like it, but alot of times money is tight and all you break is a hub or rim but the rest of the wheel is ok so lacing your own wheels and using the parts you have to their fullest is well worth teaching yourself how to lace wheels and turn wrenches.

-if i missed anything or you have questions go ahead and comment here i will be glad to answer them.

to find the proper spoke lengths, study some math and get a spoke ruler and calipers, or call a distro company the deals the aftermarket hubs and rims your looking to lace up, or just try shit out, on double wall rims you have more room to fuck with because of the nipple being recessed
